FDTD and Ray Optical Methods for Indoor Wave Propagation Modeling

چکیده
Growing interest in providing and improving radio coverage for mobile phones and wireless LANs inside buildings has recently emerged. The need of such coverage appears mainly in office buildings, shopping malls in very complex environment. Although the three dimensional FDTD method has shown great promise, the calculation time is very environment dependent and exceeds the calculation time of ray tracing or ray launching in most cases. In this article, we focus on the theoretical estimation and comparison of FDTD and ray methods in aspects of the algorithmic complexity. We introduce measured and computed results for indoor environment to illustrate the time and memory requirement of 3D FDTD method. Finally detailed introduction of combination of Ray optical and FDTD methods is presented.

With the rapid growth of indoor wireless communication systems, the need to accurately model radio wave propagation inside the building environments has increased. Many site-specific methods have been proposed for modeling indoor radio channels. Among these methods, the ray tracing algorithm and the finite-difference time domain (FDTD) method are the most popular ones. The ray tracing approach ...
متن کاملA Photon Modeling Method for the Characterization of Indoor Optical Wireless Communication
In this paper, an analysis method for optical wave propagation based on photon model is presented for the characterization of optical wireless communication environment. In contrast to radio waves, optical waves have very short wavelengths, so that material properties become important and often cause diffuse reflections. Channel models including diffuse reflections and absorption effects due to...

Ultra-short pulse is a promising technology for achieving ultra-high data rate transmission which is required to follow the increased demand of data transport over an optical communication system. Therefore, the propagation of such type of pulses and the effects that it may suffer during its transmission through an optical waveguide has received a great deal of attention in the recent years. We...

This paper describes an efficient urban outdoor and indoor wave propagation model that supports receiver performance and coverage analyses as well as system effectiveness analyses within urban canyon environments described in the Compact Terrain Database (CTDB) format. The model has been used to support Joint MEASURE based analyses of GPS III performance/coverage within a typical urban environm...
متن کاملRecent Advances in FDTD Modeling of Electromagnetic Wave Propagation in the Ionosphere
─ Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) modeling of electromagnetic wave propagation in the Earth-ionosphere waveguide has gained significant interest over the past two decades. Initially, FDTD modeling capabilities were largely limited to two-dimensional models assuming a plasma ionosphere (but incapable of accounting for Faraday rotation), or to threedimensional global models assuming a simple...
